Staying Focused

? There are many ways I can stay focused stayin focused is really hard for me to do. There are many times my mind wonder off which cost me to lose focus on whatever I am doing. Staying Focused effects alot of people in the world especially people thats in school that have kids In this report I will be talking about many ways that I can stay focused. I have a problem with staying focused I am a single mom with two kids and it is really hard trying to be focused with them around. Its real easy for me to stay focused at school or at work unless I have people around me thats disturbing me,other then that when Im there I leave my communication in the car so I can be focused in one area. Its hard to stay focused when my kids are around because all my attention goes to them. Most of the time when I have to study I have my sister or brother to watch them. (Its important to understand that maintaining focus is an active mental and physical excerise, not a passive or automatic response says Michael Pollicks). Focus gets assassinated when you find yourself being distracted. If you find yourself disoriented, scattered,or if you have no plan your focus is going to get nailed in the process. If your focus is gone you will not be able to do what you need to do in order to see the goal attained. I feel that if you don't learn how to deal with staying focused then if will be very hard to make it through anything in life especially me. I totally agree with Michael Pollick because maintaining focus is an active and physical excerise. I learned that having well defined goals are good guidelines writing my goals down really helps whenever I get distrracted. Its helps me when I read my goals It reminds me of what I am trying to do and why. (The enviroment around you will always find new ways to distract you from whats important, Its even more important to maintain your focus always remember to be calm and focused. Steve Martile). I feel that if people read more about staying focused it will help them alot I know with me reading about it helped me alot and I feel that if I follow some of these guidelines It will help me alot through life and through my career. The proccess that I will use to evaluate the information that I gathered. I will follow these steps I will choose one or two objectives for the year. Goal setting is important, but setting too many goals can be a trap. Too many goals mess alot of people focus up because they have all these goals that they are trying to complete instead if you have two goals you can focused on one at a time and you don't have to rush. If I focus on the most important first my focus will be alot stronger because I will be staying focus on what is important to me first. I will also give myself daily quiet time so that I can focused on my work or especially whan I have to study I especcially need quiet time when I am doing anything dealing with school. I learned that if u visualize daily vision it is the magnet that pulls you along your destination. It gives you the juice to move towards a bright future. Having a vision moves you with the current instead of against it. In this research I talked about many ways that I can stay focused there are many different ways that I can stay focused. If I stay focused through out my entire life I will suceede if i focus on one or two goals in life I will complete my goals I just have to stay focused. I ran across a statment that was so true and it said. ( Being the eye of the storm is no easy task, but it can be very simple. Choose one tip and commit every part of your being to make it happen. It will make all the difference as you steer your ship through those turbulent waters-and ultimately help you stay focused. by;Steve Martile)

Inventory Management Essay

Companies must predict which products customers will purchase along with determining what quantity of goods will be purchased. The company will in turn produce enough products to meet the forecast demand and sell, or push, the goods to the consumer. Advantages : The company is fairly assured it will have enough product on hand to complete customer orders. This prevents the inability to meet customer demand for the product. Disadvantages : If too much product is left in inventory, it increases the company’s costs for storing these goods. An example of a push system is Materials Requirements Planning, or MRP. MRP combines the calculations for financial, operations and logistics planning. It is a computer-based information system which controls scheduling and ordering. Its purpose is to make sure raw goods and materials needed for production are available when they are needed. Pull System The pull inventory control system begins with a customer’s order. With this strategy, companies only make enough products to fulfil customer’s orders. Advantages : There will be no excess of inventory that needs to be stored, thus reducing inventory levels and the cost of carrying and storing goods. Disadvantages : It is highly possible to run into ordering dilemmas, such as a supplier not being able to get a shipment out on time. This leaves the company unable to fulfil the order and contributes to customer dissatisfaction. An example of a pull inventory control system is the just-in-time, or JIT system. The goal is to keep inventory levels to a minimum by only having enough inventory, not more or less, to meet customer demand. The JIT system eliminates waste by reducing the amount of storage space needed for inventory and the costs of storing goods. Push-Pull System Some companies have come up with a strategy they call the push-pull inventory control system, which combines the best of both the push and pull strategies. Push-pull is also known as lean inventory strategy. It demands a more accurate forecast of sales and adjusts inventory levels based upon actual sale of goods. The goal is stabilization of the supply chain and the reduction of product shortages which can cause customers to go elsewhere to make their purchases. With the push-pull inventory control system, planners use sophisticated systems to develop guidelines for addressing short – and long-term production needs . List atleast eight performance measures for warehouse management A warehouse is a commercial building for storage of goods. A warehouse management system, or WMS, is a key part of the supply chain and primarily aims to control the movement and storage of materials within a warehouse and process the associated transactions. The following activities are common in an y warehouse: a)Receiving b) Put-away c) Order picking d) Storage e) Shipping The eight performance measures for warehouse management are : 1. Service Level : Shipment Service Level (% of Lines shipped on time) Service Level (% of inbound lines put away within time limit) 2. Space: % of space occupied vs. % accessibility Warehouse capacity use rate % = No. of palets stored in warehouse / warehouse capacity in palets no. 3. Inventory: Inventory turnover ratio Inventory Accuracy 4. Productivity: Productivity (Measured in terms of lines picked per hour worked) Number of SKUs picked per hour 5. Quality: Quality in terms of errors per thousand lines shipped. Errors in dispatches Ware housing discrepancies = Products lost value (at cost) / total products shipped value (at cost) 6. Cost: Cost of warehouse operations Storage cost per item Cost of picking per order Cost of shipping per order 7. Cycle Time: Time taken to process a receipt. Time taken for each put-away. Inventory days on hand. Order Pick cycle time per order. Shipping time 8. Utilization: Receiving Dock door utilization % Utilization % of labour and equipment % Location and cube occupied Picking labour and equipment utilization % Utilization of shipping docks in % . What features would make an ideal supplier? Timely delivery: A good supplier is someone who keeps up to timely delivery of goods and supplies. Delayed supplies leads to business losses to the immediate customer and in turn delayed delivery to the end customer. This also opens up avenues for other secondary systems like buffer inventories to keep the chain going in addition to increasing overall costs. Competitive price: Business owners and suppliers add the cost of purchasing materials for a product into its retail price making it costlier. A reduction in this cost will lead to a reduction in the cost of the product as well. Quality: Quality is a very important aspect in determining a good supplier. Providing ultimate customer value is an important objective of business. Minimal paper work: From the placing of an order to the actual buying of an order involves a ton of paper work. A good supplier will find ways of reducing the amount of paper work involved. Quick response/ turn around time: The world of business is highly unstable, and often the gap between demand and supply can be hard to predict. A good supplier will always be prepared to meet such a contingency. Again a frequent and smaller quantity of supplies is the key to eliminating this gap. Inspection of goods: Inspection of goods is a time consuming activity for both the supplier and the buyer. However quality assurance of the goods can again reduce the time spent on inspecting the goods. Taking care of wear and tear and transport damage: Transportation and delivery often involves a lot of wear and tear and a good supplier is someone who recognizes these limitations and takes proactive steps to help reduce or avoid the damage involved. Constant frequency of delivery: If a supplier can keep to supplying goods at constant and smaller frequencies, then the cost advantage is supplemented. Meaning, if a product or part is found to be defective, then the time spent in replacing it is minimal as opposed to having to replace a whole carton or shipment of that item since the delivery is frequent and the supply chain is actively functioning. This is not only cost effective but is also a time and space saver.

Why is it important to define adequately the use of a system? It is important to define the use of a system, because to know how to use it you need to understand what is was made for and what its requirements were and that made it so. It is very important to understand this and develop systems which will verity the quality in which the system was developed for. The systems ground work will be defined but its specifications and its requirements, which will be illustrated and lardier their function in a design document. What the system will accomplish is understood by what the systems requirements are. How these requirements will be met will be understood by the system specifications set by the client whom the system will serve. These two combined create the system, in which if made correctly will be made to be used with eased by the user operating the system developed. This will allow for design documentation, which will help a project team develop quality accumulation that will develop effective design documentation. This will improve stability that will allow the system to be easy and cheap to maintain. System analysis must gather accurate information to ensure that all needs are addressed, If this Is not performed properly. The system will result as a failure. Therefore It Is required to define adequately the use of a system. List five Items a typical design document contains.

Marketing Behavior and Decision-Making Assignment - 1

Marketing Behavior and Decision-Making - Assignment Example In addition, this course also highlights how the decision-making process is affected by social, marketing and other situational factors. According to research, the customers usually go through a five-stage process. This model is extremely crucial for individuals during the creation of marketing decisions. As stated above, this model includes need recognition, information search, evaluation of alternatives, purchase and post-purchase analysis (Kardes, 2001). This course enables learners to manage all these stages hence, persuading the potential client that the product surely satisfies his or her needs. On the other hand, an MBA (Master of Business Administration) degree is usually awarded to learners who have understood and mastered the study of business (Gorman, 2003). Researchers claim that this degree is considered as a prominent degree compared to other degree courses all over the world. The learners are equipped with knowledge which can be applied in several real world business situations. Individuals with the MBA degree have successfully managed to advance their careers and also increase their salary potential in a significant way. This is because most of the MBA graduates are eligible to apply for the job vacancies in the current business world. In fact, job vacancies that are related to the executive and senior management positions usually require individuals who have an MBA degree. Most of the MBA programs offer the required skills in general management through a specialized curriculum (Gorman, 2003). This form of education is quite relevant in most business sectors and industries. In the MBA degree, there are different disciplines that are offered. Some of the most common disciplines include marketing, economics, accounting, finance, information systems, entrepreneurship, global management and operations management among

What is considered as Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3500 words

What is considered as - Essay Example For someone keen in film studies, it’s clear that the few chosen characteristics of cult cinema are often in opposition with those of mainstream cinema as well as the differences in their audience. Irrespective of the different opinions in theorizing cult cinema, several of its features are inarguable; a cult film is defined through a sub cultural ideology, which marks it to exist in opposition to the mainstream because of their niche appeal, and composed of identifiable textual divergence. Besides their nature to appeal to viewers’ subversive instincts, the sense of nonconformity and irrationality in the film, Bentley-Baker reiterates Corrigan and White depiction of cult films as â€Å"ephemeral or non commercial films that, despite their lack of traditional cultural value, have survived to yield fascinating glimpses of the past† (2010). Some consider it a private genre with egregiously eccentric characters, often featured for exhibition at odd hours like midnight and known to trigger passionate attachments. Criteria set to establish cult films entail marginality, violation of boundaries (transgression), composed of iconography and cause self identified audience group among others. The popular genre of horror films together with fantasy and science fiction films are the few that lend themselves for the treatment of cult cinema. Based on the newly formed idealist and dystopian characteristics of horror films, especially the slasher sub genre, they have acted as the intersection with, or a vehicle in production of cult films. Looking into it, you will establish that most modern directors and film makers began with mastery of horror movies, before graduating in cult film makers. Slasher films which gained popularity from the 80s is composed of generative storylines involving psychopathic killers trailing on selective victims, has formulaic portrayals of violence, drenched in taboos and with

Inclusion in Special Needs Education Research Paper

Inclusion in Special Needs Education - Research Paper Example Discussion According to Ballard (1997: 244): Inclusive education is understood as a non-discriminatory practice of providing individuals of whatever age, color, ethnicity, culture, gender, or even disability the equal treatment they deserve at classroom setting and the school community (Ballard, 1997). These learners are given equal rights and involve all students in a community. There are no exceptions to access the culturally valued curriculum of their society whatever may be the intellectual, physical, sensory or other differences they may have. They are treated as full-time valued members of society. Inclusion accepts and practices diversity in the assimilation process. Colonization of minority experiences by prevailing and popular culture, thoughts and actions are as much as possible diminished (Ballard, 1997). There were set unique characteristics of integration as against inclusion. Integration involves the provision of support to students with special needs in the same mainst ream classes where regular and disabled children are educated side-by-side (Farrell, 2010). Inclusion, on the other hand, poses a major restructuring of schools to inherently educate all students in the communities. Ballard (1997) recommended that physical education teachers and their trainers should establish clear contexts for their work based upon ethos committed to fundamental restructuring and adaptation of existing policies, learning, teaching, and assessment practices. It is important that teachers are adequately prepared to meet the special needs of children. The teachers should be responsive to a diverse range of pupil needs to address inclusive education. In the mid-1990s, the rights of all learners (including young disabled people and those with special educational needs (SEN)) to experience education alongside their age peers in a mainstream, rather than segregated, settings has increasingly become a defining feature of government policy in many countries (Farrell, 2010) . The Salamanca Statement on inclusive education (United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization, 1994), has many governments committed to providing a more inclusive education system based on an accepted ideological assumption that all children should have a fundamental right and equal opportunity to experience education in mainstream schools (Barton, 2009). The Salamanca Statement specified the inclusion of all young disabled people and those with special educational needs in mainstream settings. Mainstream schools must accommodate all children regardless of their physical, intellectual, social, emotional, linguistic and other conditions (Garner, 2009). Implementation It was suggested that hiring well-prepared teachers with sufficient training or experience with SEN pupils is important for mainstream inclusion (Sachteleben, 2010). These teachers are well-versed on available resources online and use of technologies that aid in addressing SEN pupils. Continuing educ ation for capable mainstream teachers may also be adopted. But most importantly, capable teachers should be properly benefitted to make them stay in the school and in the profession.

Theories of Internationalization Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 3000 words

Theories of Internationalization - Essay Example This paper takes a comprehensive look at three of these theories: The Uppsala Model, The Eclectic Theory of International Production and Michael Porter Diamond Model. The definitions, assumptions, strengths and weaknesses relating to the above mentioned theories are discussed in this paper. The Uppsala Model The Uppsala Model was developed by Johanson and Vahlne in 1977 from their studies which focused on manufacturing firms of Sweden (Buckley & Ghauri, 1998 p.63). The empirical observations from their studies made them formulate the Uppsala Model. This model is based on the behavioural theory which uses behavioural actions to explain the nature of firms. Internationalization has been described as a process of experiential learning and incremental commitments which leads to an evolutionary development in a foreign market. The model has focused more on acquisition of knowledge and learning. In this regard, the lack of knowledge is seen as a barrier to the development of foreign operat ions. Four core concepts can be extracted from the Uppsala Model. These are market knowledge, market commitment, current activities and commitment decisions (Buckley & Ghauri, 1998 p.66). ... Both kinds of knowledge are required for international initiatives. The objective or general knowledge is easily learnt through teaching and marketing researches while the experiential or market -specific knowledge is only learnt through personal experience and is not transferrable of separable from the source. The model places much emphasis on experiential knowledge because it generates business opportunities and lays the foundation upon which internationalization process takes place. Market commitment concept is built from two factors. They are the amount of resources and the degree of commitment. The amount of resources refers to the size or the scale of investment in terms of marketing, personnel, research and others. The degree of commitment varies depending on the level of integration between the resources and other parts of the firm. The degree is higher if the level of integration is higher. Current activities constitute the main source of experience for a firm. Experience is important because it generates opportunities that lead to market commitments. Other sources of experience would include hiring people with experience, getting advice from other firms and taking over other firms with experience. These options have their limitations. First, the experienced force to be hired may not be available and second, the firms to take over or get advice from may not also be available. The best available option of gaining experience is through current activities which is a slow process (Michael, 2011 p. 39). The current business activities have to be continuous over time in order to realize desired consequences. Therefore, if the lag between the current activities and desired

Book Memo Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 250 words

Book Memo - Essay Example Immigrants usually migrate from place to place until they get to the place that is most suitable to them, while settlers would remain fixed and would try to make things better for themselves in the region they reside. Undocumented immigrants come to the United States and some other major nations of the world in search of better life considering the fact that these countries are more developed than their native country (Kivisto & Faist). The immigrants would first be separated from their loved ones and this is usually difficult for them, considering the fact that they had a sort of emotional attachment to these people. Transition is the experience that the immigrants have when they enter and become a member of a particular society. Incorporation is the phase that the immigrant identifies with the new community they migrate to and this does not mean they have to accept the values of this community. And this is just like the rite of passage as it takes place when someone makes a reasona ble progress by changing from one status to another (Kivisto & Faist). One question this that should be asked is that: what are the reasons that some immigrants, both the documented and the undocumented ones chose to reside permanently in the United States of America and some other major nations. The Foils of Hamlet Essay Example | Topics and Well Written Essays - 2500 words

The Foils of Hamlet - Essay Example He has every reason to be mad, since the new King Claudius and now husband to Queen Gertrude happens to be his own brother. The new King Claudius has issues too: He has to contend with a potential war from Norway’s Prince Fortinbras and his nephew and new stepson is being a little bit of nuisance, mostly because he cannot get the fact over that his mother (Gertrude) could not wait even for the dust to settle before marrying the new King. Hamlet’s bud Horatio informs him about the ghost and thus arranges a meeting. The ghost spills it all; that it is his late father’s spirit, proving that it is Claudius who murdered his father by pouring poison in his ear while Hamlet Senior was sleeping in his garden and then orders his son to take revenge. The show is now on and Hamlet’s master plan involves acting like a madman or a clown and the next time we catch a glimpse of Prince Hamlet, his girlfriend, Ophelia claims that he has gone nuts. Polonius notifies the Kin g of this new development and they decide to spy on the youngsters to ascertain if indeed Ophelia is the source of Hamlet’s â€Å"craziness†. At the same time a reprieve comes from Danish ambassadors from Norway with the news that there isn’t going to be any war, after all. ... This is a plan of Hamlet to watch Claudius’s reaction to ascertain if really the ghost is telling the truth. Hamlet’s plan is rolling out very well and he delivers the big â€Å"to be or not to be† speech about suicide. Instead he gets all creepy and gross with Ophelia before watching Claudius get up and shout that he is guilty. Hamlet plots to murder him, but then he doesn’t, he instead ends up accidentally killing Polonius who is his girlfriend’s (Ophelia’s) dad. Claudius gets angry with Hamlet and sends him off to England in front of his mother. However on the way, Hamlet sees Prince Fortinbras of Norway marching across the land to reclaim some lost territories. This inspires him to head back to Denmark to murder his uncle Claudius. Back in Denmark and in the castle, Ophelia has cracked and her brother Laertes is meanwhile very bitter with Hamlet for killing their dad and the current state of his sister. So Claudius persuades him to stage a friendly duel and kill Hamlet by using a sharpened rather than a blunt sword, with of course some poison as backup. Before we realize it, Ophelia is dead, most probably by suicide which means that she doesn’t even get a decent send off. Big scene is created between Hamlet and Laertes when Hamlet randomly stumbles upon this burial and the Hamlet gets Horatio to hasten up on his return: on the boat to England, Hamlet however opened the letter that his companions Rosencrantz and Guildenstern were carrying and found the plot to have him killed. Obviously, Hamlet changed the letter to say â€Å"Please kill Rosencrantz and Guildenstern, thanks,† and escaped on a pirated ship back to his Kingdom. On the last scene, as Hamlet engage

Cebu Pacific Essay Example for Free

Cebu Pacific Essay A. Economic Forces Generating billions in revenues and creating hundreds of thousands of jobs. In recent years, the global aviation industry has been through many ups and downs. From skyrocketing fuel prices to pandemics to recent financial crisis, aviation industry has confronted a very rough weather in last ten years or so. Consolidation in mature markets, higher ticket prices, modernization of airports, policies to reduce emissions and tremendous growth prospects in emerging economies have been some of the trends during the decade. According to recent industry reports, the global aviation industry is on the path of recovery and future looks optimistic and would present ample opportunities for the stakeholders. The airline industry is inextricably tied to the overall economy – even minor recessions result in reduced demand and increased sensitivity to prices for leisure as well as business travellers. Changes in the economy have a big affect on the airline industry. The elasticity of demand, externalities, wage inequality, and monetary, fiscal, and federal policies all have an impact on this industry. The airline industry is constantly changing due to today’s market and today we will be looking at the reasons behind it. By successfully managing opportunity cost, and adapting to an ever changing economic environment, airline industries can have economic success. However, the well-being of the nation’s economy will have a direct impact on the level of success experienced in the airline industry. During economic shortfalls in the nation’s economy, travellers will have fewer resources available to travel for pleasure. Contributing to the negative economic influences in the airline industry, future and existing policies targeting the airline industry will continue to hinder the industry’s ability to recover losses in periods of economic hardships. The launch of low cost airlines in Philippines has provided a boost for the  industry. Airlines that have been part of this trend are Asian Spirit and Southeast Asian Air, offering affordable fares to local and even international destinations. The public seems to have embraced this, as the rate of flying passengers has increased. This increased not only accounts for new fliers but also regular flying passengers who were on a budget and now have a choice to choosing budget over luxury. There are quite a few negative externalities in the airline industry. Another thing that the economy is affecting the airline industry is the competing airlines. The bigger airlines can afford lower fares which make it hard for the smaller airlines to compete. Different airlines have plans to expand but will not be able to until the cost of fuel is under control. For the low fare carriers who allow advanced booking, they will need to work on a plan to avoid bankruptcy. This will make the airline industry continue to boost prices due to the fact that oil prices are expected to continue rising due to the supply. B. Political Forces In 1973, from the Letters of Instruction (151 and 151A) the airline industry in the Philippines was monopolized by Philippine Airlines (PAL). The monopoly lasted for more than twenty years until the Executive Order 19 in 1995 which liberalized the airline industry establishing the domestic and international civil aviation liberalization policy in the country. The E.O 219 stipulates the removal of restrictions on routes and flight frequencies, as well as government control on fares and charges. Following the liberalization, the industry attracted new entrants such as Cebu Pacific, Air Philippines, Grand Air, and Mindanao Express. Unfortunately, Grand Air and Mindanao Express were unsuccessful, and then SEAir and Asian Spirit come to birth. Today, airline industry in the Philippines is under the regulations of Department of Transportation and Communication (DOTC) under the civil aviation sector. The Civil Aviation sector is composed of the Manila International Airport Authority (MIAA), Mactan Cebu International Airport  Authority (MCIAA), Philippine Aerospace Development Corporation (PADC), Civil Aeronautics Board (CAB) and the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) (formerly known as ATO). The Department continuously upgrades and improves the international and domestic airport facilities to meet international standards and to provide better service to the commuters. On the other hand, our airline regulatory boards also recognize the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO). The ICAO has several regulations that the local boards are following. Last March 19, 2009, the ISO 9001:2000 Certificate for NAIA terminal 1 was awarded by Anglo Japanese American (AJA) Registrars, Inc. after passing the Phase 1 Audit of the Passenger Facilitation Processes. On May 21, 2009 MIAA was given the upgraded ISO 1991:2008 Certification making the Authority and the NAIA Terminal 1 one of the very few institutions in the country that have passed this upgraded level of certification. Today, airline industry in the Philippines is facing a big issue in international safety standard. Early this year, the European Union banned airlines from Angola and vowed to block carriers from Sudan and the Philippines from starting flights to the 27-country bloc. The European Transport Commissioner SiimKallas said that they cannot accept airlines fly into EU if they do not fully comply with international safety standards. The Philippine authorities and airlines mad efforts to resolve this issue but still Philippines would be banned from the EU precaution. C. Socio-Cultural Forces Obesity One controversy surrounds the issue of airline companies tightening their seat restrictions for obese passengers. Some companies have gone as far as to charge an overweight individual the cost of two seats because of their size. This has created a stir, as it brings up the question of discrimination. As indelicate as this issue is, airline companies contend that it simply costs more to fly those more portly passengers. According to Newsweek, â€Å"A study concluded that the 10 pounds Americans gained on average during the 1990s required an additional 350 million gallons of fuel a year.†Ã‚  So it would seem that this issue has less to do with discrimination and more to do with simple arithmetic. Security Airline companies have undergone a dramatic shift in the safety precautions they take, upping the ante in security measures due to recent terrorist attacks. And while the increase in security may, on some level, ease the mind of the pilots, passengers and their families, it also increases the anxiety and frustration with the amount of time and effort it takes to get from the airport ticket counter to the terminal gate. Because of the few successful breaches in security that have occurred over the past decade, airlines will never again have the luxury of being so lax in terms of their security. Ethnicity Perception is a major factor in how we view the world. It is also one of the oldest studies in psychology. How we perceive ethnicity, as it relates to air travel, has much to do with September 11, 2001. Since then the eyes of the world have grown increasingly sensitive to the ethnicity of passengers travelling on airplanes. It has created something of a negative perception for particular races and religions. Bloomberg Business week reports, â€Å"Airline experts and executives say it’s important not to exaggerate the effects of terrorism fears.† However, because airline companies have had to exercise increased security measures because of terrorism, and because passengers have grown increasingly aware of possible threats, those perceptions are not easily dismissed. D. Technological Forces Internet as a way to book flights, check in, and check flight status – Before, ticketing offices were often jam-packed by people who wants to book flights, and most of the time, they are becoming irritated of the situation. Now, with the dawn of the Internet and Cebu Pacific Air’s entry to the world wide web, customers can now book flights without going to a ticketing office, pay their billings securely using Credit/Debit card, they can even change their flight details without bothering to go personally to CEB office, and check flight status that will be a much-used during storm  seasons and other obstacles that might hinder the the flight. Always new and improved software for airlines Acquiring and continuously upgrading its software is a very big positive impact for the company. It is a way of telling your customers and prospective customers that your airline will not cause them any hassles and troubles in the near future. Aside from having it as an impression of promising greatness, generally, all will follow to the good lead. New technology for airline employees Airline employees should be introduced with new technologies to avoid having problems in the future. The airline had purchased new equipments, machines to shorten the queue, but if they have no idea of how it operates, you will not obtain your objective. So every employee must be knowledgeable of technologies for we are now in the 21st century. New pilot training courses Finishing a course to become a pilot is not enough. Even if you have become one of the airline’s pilot, you still have to go through series of training courses and seminars to keep on track. Learning does not stop. Therefore as Cebu Pacific Air’s vow to excellence and safety, they are launching several training courses to avoid a doubt, if there is, for a customer to think whether the pilot is competent enough. By this, passengers can seat safe and sound. New security technology Website hacking is like an infectious virus that was troubling many people nowadays. But with the new security technology, customers will not have any bad thinking about paying securely using their Credit/Debit card. Cebu Pacific Air’s paying system was verified by Visa, MasterCard and VeriSign. It is a big sign that the airline has a very strong security technology that no hackers can destroy. E. Environmental Forces Contrails short for â€Å"condensation trails† or vapour trails are artificial clouds that are the visible trails of condensed water vapour made by the  exhaust of aircraft engines. As the hot exhaust gases cool in the surrounding air they may precipitate a cloud of microscopic water droplets. If the air is cold enough, this trail will comprise tiny ice crystals. The wingtip vortices which trail from the wingtips and wing flaps of aircraft are sometimes partly visible due to condensation in the cores of the vortices. Each vortex is a mass of spinning air and the air pressure at the centre of the vortex is very low. These wingtip vortices are not the same as contrails. Depending on atmospheric conditions, contrails may be visible for only a few seconds or minutes, or may persist for many hours which may affect climate. The main by-products of hydrocarbon fuel combustion are carbon dioxide and water vapour. At high altitudes this water vapour emerges into a cold environment, and the local increase in water vapour can push the water content of the air past saturation point. The vapour then condenses into tiny water droplets and/or deposits into ice. These millions of tiny water droplets and/or ice crystals form the vapour trail or contrails. The vapour’s need to condense accounts for the contrail forming some way behind the aircraft’s engines. At high altitudes, super cooled water vapor requires a trigger to encourage deposition or condensation. The exhaust particles in the aircraft’s exhaust act as this trigger, causing the trapped vapour to rapidly turn to ice crystals. Exhaust vapour trails or contrails usually occur above 8000 metres (26,000 feet) and only if the temperature there is below −40  °C (−40  °F). Engine Emissions Over the years, increasing attention has been paid to the sustainable development of the aviation sector. It is now widely recognised that the costs of these externalities must be internalised and paid for by the aviation industry and its users. Of all the externalities generated from commercial flights, aircraft engine emissions have extensive impacts on human health, vegetation, materials, ecosystem and the climate. Currently, only around 10 airports have applied engine emissions surcharges, which are in Switzerland, Sweden and the United Kingdom. However, the impacts of aircraft engine emissions are a world-wide issue and have drawn significant attention in the global community. This research aims to evaluate the impacts of aircraft engine emissions  charges, based on the estimation of social costs, on airlines operating costs. The paper firstly presents the methods of assessing the social costs of aircraft engine emissions. The environmental impacts of aircraft engine emissions include both aircraft landing and take-off and the cruise stage. The social costs of aircraft emissions vary by engine type and aircraft category, depending on the damages caused by different engine pollutants on the human health, vegetation, materials, aquatic ecosystem and climate. Nine Asian airlines, covering both network full service carriers and low cost airlines, are selected for empirical analysis. The implications of aircraft engine emissions charges on the selected airlines and the corresponding effects on operating costs were measured, involving five existing intra-Asian flight routes. It was found that the aircraft engine emission charges would range from 3-12% of the airlines ¡Ã‚ ¦ operating costs, depending on the route distance, aircraft types and the nature of airline operating characteristics. Airport noise Aircraft noise is noise pollution produced by any aircraft or its components, during various phases of a flight: on the ground while parked such as auxiliary power units, while taxiing, on run-up from propeller and jet exhaust, during takeoff, underneath and lateral to departure and arrival paths, over-flying while en route, or during landing.Aerodynamic noise arises from the airflow around the aircraft fuselage and control surfaces. This type of noise increases with aircraft speed and also at low altitudes due to the density of the air. Jet-powered aircraft create intense noise from aerodynamics. Low-flying, high-speed military aircraft produce especially loud aerodynamic noise. The shape of the nose, windshield or canopy of an aircraft affects the sound produced. Much of the noise of a propeller aircraft is of aerodynamic origin due to the flow of air around the blades. The helicopter main and tail rotors also give rise to aerodynamic noise. This type of aerodynamic noise is mostly low frequency determined by the rotor speed. Much of the noise in propeller aircraft comes equally from the propellers and aerodynamics. Helicopter noise is aerodynamically induced noise from the main and tail rotors and mechanically induced noise from the main gearbox and various  transmission chains. The mechanical sources produce narrow band high intensity peaks relating to the rotational speed and movement of the moving parts. In computer modelling terms noise from a moving aircraft can be treated as a line source. Aircraft Gas Turbine engines (Jet Engines) are responsible for much of the aircraft noise during takeoff and climb. However, with advances in noise reduction technologies the airframe is typically noisier during landing. The majority of engine noise is due to Jet Noise although high bypass-ratio turbofans do have considerable Fan Noise. The high velocity jet leaving the back of the engine has inherent shear layer instability (if not thick enough) and rolls up into ring vortices. This of course later breaks down into turbulence. The SPL associated with engine noise is proportional to the jet speed (to a high power) therefore; even modest reductions in exhaust velocity will see a large reduction in Jet Noise.

KFC Customer Survey

KFC Customer Survey The main aim of this assignment is to carry out a customer survey both in the stores of the KFC and outside available food joints to find out whether the people are willing for the introduction of local flavored menu by KFC. Through this, to identify the influence of differences in the culture, on the success of the multinational food retailing. This is a process to analyze the social aspect of a particular country influencing the acceptance of the food served by a retailing company from a different cultural background. Objectives This whole study is carried either to prove or disprove that people are willing to accept local menu items along with the standard menu items being offered by KFC in its several restaurants across the globe. Based on the customer willingness to accept or to study their appetite for local items in KFC and how these items could help out to attract many people and how it will support the increase in sales if at all accepted by the customers, and at the same how at all if introduced these items are going to surrogate the main branded items of the KFC which are already doing good in its menu. Identifying different variety of the local menu items being offered by several similar type of quick serving restaurants, analyzing deeply the menu items and their ingredients, the customer appealing value by those ingredients used there in. after an in depth analysis of these items and menu ingredients , trying to do research studies, which of them to be adopted and which can be innovated , to develop a new product. Research questions and justification KFC entered India in the year 1995, as Kentucky Fried Chicken, but due to the several agitations by the people from many sectors against it stating that KFC is not adhereing to the food safety norms that were prevailing in India and the issues of ill treating the chicken in the farms which supply meat to KFC (ICMR, 2005)etc, this was also followed by the agitation from the farmer leaders stating that companies like kfc encourage farmers go away from farming the normal crops to rear chicken. Adding to this most of the vegetarians from Mumbai treating kfc serve only non-vegetarian food and they never turned up in the restaurant. Due to all these reasons which ignored to study the business, cultural influence on the food consumption kfc had to leave India and it reenterd India after chaning its name to the now KFC from its past Kentucky Fried Chicken. This shows the importance of the study of cultural influences on the new market entry decisions. There are several issues to be answered through this research questions. First of decision should be made on whether the people are willing to accept any such item which is local in flavor. To identify this questionnaire is made with a question, Is that advisable to introduce local flavors in KFC? This is done along with other questions which enquire about the position of the KFC in the minds of the customers how they are perceiving its services and the ambience at the restaurants. This is also should be done along with the questions which inquire the acceptance of the present existing menu items. Question also should be raised, to identify the taste of the palettes of the target country which type of food they are most interested or which type of recipe they had their heart throbs for. This should be done so as to get in place the menu item which will be voted most by the general people who eat outside most of the times. Literature review This is basically a comparative study which also should be take into consideration the strategies of similar restaurants like KFC. So similar type restaurants like McDonalds, Texas chicken, Burger king, Subway , which are into similar format as KFC intro the quick serving restaurants, but still these form different menu items in each of them. McDonalds sell burgers as its main item but at the same this is taken as one of the referral because it is the first restaurant which broke its conventional standard item concept and introduced the local menu item in India which is named as Aloo Tikki this item is very much popular in the outlets of McDonalds, India knowledge,2009. Texas chicken is one such restaurant which delas with only chicken snack items exactly similar to the KFC, hence if the items from this restaturant is also studied which one is being liked most by the people from this restaurant. Burger king is also one of the famous quick serving restaurant in India which totally relies on the burger menu items only. Coming to the subway the food sold here is full of green in nature they serve for the gourmets who are calorie conscious also. Knowing the tastes of the people visiting such varied restaurants can enhance the knowledge of the taste of the people. Along with the consensus of which famous item is liked by them it should also be known whether they like the menu items which are local being offered by them. This will once again reconfirms the decision of introductions of the local menu item into a target market by KFC. Marie-CÃ ©cile Cervellon and Laurette Dube, 2005, made a research on how different cultures influenced the likes and dislikes in consuming a particular food. They discussed in detail the theoretical and practical results on the dominance of the culture. This study was done in basically to study the inter-influence of cultures on food between the French and the Chinese cuisines. American Heart Association, 2010, in their curriculum to teach their nutritional experts, briefly explain its how the differences in the cultures, differences in the ethnicity they belong to, differences in the family backgrounds, depend upon the choice of food intake by their patients. This will really help them in formulating the complete diet chart. But there are very few studies which discuss on the influence of cultures for the success of multinational fast referred retailing giants. Though McDonalds is already serving with different menu items in different countries. Initially it got its lessons from its failure in the Chinese countries, where the eight initial intervals and its standard menu, which was not eventually accepted well by the Chinese people. Then it came out with a principle to introduce the combination menu with both the local and standard menu variants. Methodology and Data collection methods The research is intended to use two kinds of data to carry out the research namely, primary and secondary data. Assessing the data that was already been used by the others which was collected through primary sources for some other purpose is known as secondary data. Primary data is the most recent or new data that is collected specifically for the purpose intended book will for the research. Based on the aim and objective of the present study, the data should be collected afresh to decide upon whether to introduce a new customized menu for India by KFC. This should be taken from the people who are intended to be the customers of KFC. The whole survey would be done in two stages where in the first stage of the primary data collection is done at the outlets of the KFC only. This could be done through the responses of the customers who walk in to KFC, from whom the primary data is collected through a survey questionnaire. Basically this research is intended only to decide upon whether is it advisable to introduce a local menu item along with the standard items that were present with the KFC. This survey process shall be conducted by any survey agencies with the aid of the survey questions designed by me and the company together , this also can be done through any free online survey website or by directly mailing the questionnaire to those mail ids which were already present with the KFC which it maintains them as part of their promotional activity to mail them for greeting them on their special occasions, or which were collected through several of their contact points. The second stage of the survey process is aimed at actual introduction of the local menu item, this is to be carried out after the initial stage was complete and once any such decision was taken to introduce the local menu item and then if this is the time to decide which menu item should be introduced, based on the taste of the customers who regularly eat outside of their homes in quick serving restaurants like KFC. This survey could be done at other such outlets which are similar to KFC or those which have good appeal on the gourmets, and any other such hotels or restaurants which are famous for their exclusive or multi cuisine recipes. This survey also will be carried out online for a specific period of time till the intended sample size of the objective is fulfilled. Actual aiming sample size for online survey is 2000 people. After concluding the two types of surveys which will be done through different channels, the data collected here will be qualitatively analised using the statistical charts. This will enable us to go through an easy process of decision making as the figures here will disclose the intention of the people who participated in the surveys. Based on these results the recommendation ot the company whether there is a necesiity for the introduction of the local item is necessary or it is better to continue with the existing standard items with the KFC. Once it is decided to introduce the local flavour or local menu item decision to zero down on which type of item should be introduced should be made. This is based on the second survey, though there will be no concrete decision can be made to go out with the items or the spices being used in the survey list as is , KFC can get a clue which type of items can be liked by the people who visit the restaurants of KFC. For the second issue which is aimed at studying the cross cultural issues of introduction of Indian food in other countries, and the cross cultural issues to be taken care for KFC. The whole data is collected through secondary source only which include internet, This whole study is based on the exploratory method of research. Exploratory research frequently relies on secondary data for its research like reviewing the available literatures and/or data, also depends on qualitative approaches which include data collected by other researchers through informal discussions with the people involved or related to the fast food industry and the study of culture on the eating habits, employees, and the management or the competitors who can reveal different things which may be useful for carrying on the whole research successfully. And more such formal approaches of thorough in-depth interviews which were already available from the said focus groups, using of different projective methods, can a lso depend on the case studies or pilot studies which are already done by several intellectual individuals based on the primary information. Ethical issues and procedures: Fair practices are followed through out the study process while collecting the data , analyzing the data. All such disclosures which ever are necessary and important will be made to fulfill the analysis process. No data is suppressed or over described through the process. No stereotypic analysis will be made based on the fraud made by Ramalinga raju and his aids who had still had due respect till the case is to be finalized. No data will be collected or used which is copyright material, without the permission or only if it is free to use. Data Analysis both qualitative and quantitative to analysis of the data should our recommended league proposal to analyse the data in this research process. He grounded Theory approach (Strauss and Corbin, 1998) which uses the open coding, axial coding and selective coding all the tools which will be used to analyse the data obtained from in-depth interviews and extensive participation of the survey participants. to arrival at a particular theory through a less formalised and with less procedurals while maintaining rigourous data in a systematic way is only possible with this grounded theory approach and the sees its advantage for the data analysis more quickly. Apart from this as a part of the research process that data will be analysed by statistical package for the social sciences (SPSS), which is a software package which he is being used for data management and statistical analysis. This will help in the research process to profile the respondents to the survey. Resource Requirement The college library facilities and the learning support services are the best resources for the publishing copies as well as the electronic copies of the required a literature which will be useful for literature review. Usage of both telephone and Internet facilities are very essential to carry on the fieldwork, survey which he is intended to carry on at the any of the outlets of the KFC. Continuous interaction with the store managers and other executives of the restaurant is very essential as there are key contributors for the whole research process. Frequent travelling is also can be expected to visit the place of fieldwork to negotiate and convened our research process with the help of the store manager and other authorities of the KFC. Pi and Richard Parker in Life of Pi Essay example -- Yann Martel

Pi gives two renditions of his 227 days on the ocean. His second version, instead of involving animals, claims that other survivors from the ship are present. Pi witnesses and takes part in cannibalism, going against his vegetarianism and human nature. Pi also commits murder in this adaptation of his story, killing his mother’s murderer, a reality that is hard for Pi to come to terms with. Since this event is easier for him to cope with if is not the one directly involved in the killing, he replaces himself with Richard Parker. Thus, as shown by Pi’s creation of others in order to suppress guilt, the mind can invent or distort memories in order to preserve one’s sanity and spiritual survival. The same mechanism of self preservation of the mind is shown in the movie Castaway (2000). In the movie, Chuck is the only survivor of a plane crash and he must survive a island. Humans cannot bear isolation. To cope with his loneliness, Chuck creates Wilson, a volleyball with a face drawn with blood, and treats Wilson as if he is an individual. To Chuck, Wilson is someone to engage in conversation with and a close friend. Wilson’s creation illustrates how humans will do anything to cope with loneliness, prevent insanity, and ultimately survive. â€Å"I must say a word about fear. It is life's only true opponent. Only fear can defeat life,† (Martel, 203). On his trek, Pi faces a multitude of different fears and overcomes each one of them in order to survive. One of Pi’s greatest fears is Richard Parker, the deadly Bengal tiger. Pi realizes that he has to cope with Richard Parker, regardless of his natural fear, since they are in the lifeboat together. Pi cannot run away, he must take action. He states, â€Å"I couldn’t always be runnin... ...s, a group of stranded schoolboys show their need for each other’s company. The first thing the boys do is seek each other out once they arrive on the uninhabited island. The boys are young and cannot tend to their needs alone, thus it is necessary for them collaborate in order to survive. Within the group, a hierarchy of leadership is established. One person is viewed as their chief, someone of considerable wisdom and charisma to guide them. The main focus of their group is survival, however, there are two philosophies on how to survive within the group. This causes the group break into factions. Even though there are disagreements between individuals, they continue to stick together and form groups. This illustrates how collaboration between individuals is essential for survival in dire situations and how people will work together if their existence depends on it.

Is This Really Happening To Me? :: essays research papers

Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  One bright early morning at around 7:00 A.M. I woke up. After waking up I proceeded to use the restroom then took a shower. After showering I then ate breakfast then began to brush my teeth and got dressed for school. Finally, I was done with my morning routine and then I headed out for my day at school.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  On my way to school I followed the speed limit to avoid getting a ticket. When I got to school I proceeded to go to my first class which is Sociology. When class was let out I went to the quad where I smoked a cigarette and did home work for my classes for the next day. Then at approximately 12:00 P.M. I met up with my friend Tonya then we walked to our next class, Theatre, which we had together. While in our Theatre class we joked around and criticized different movies, and the bad acting in several of those movies. When that class ended my friend Tonya and I decided to got to the mall.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  When we got to the mall we parked at the food court so we could get something to eat at Chick-Fil-A after our long day at school. On the way walking to Chick-Fil-A we decided to stop at Abercrombie and Fitch, our favorite store. While in Abercrombie and Fitch I saw this really fine outfit but I only had enough money on me for me to eat that day. So my friend told me that I should just steal it so I could wear it when we went out that weekend. But I knew better I knew it would be wrong so I decided we should just leave and go eat and I would go back and get the outfit once I had enough money for the outfit on me. After we ate we decided to leave the mall. While I was bringing her back to her vehicle another friend of mine, Kenny, called. He called to invite me over before work because he was going to be cooking and few people were going to go over. So I told him I would but I had to go home and get dressed for work before I went out there to meet them. I then went home and got dressed for a long night at work.   Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  Ã‚  After I took my shower and got dressed I left and went to Kenny’s.

Causes of the Great Depression :: American History Economics Economy Essays

Causes of the Great Depression The Great Depression was the worst economic slump ever in U.S. history, and one which spread to virtually the entire industrialized world. The depression began in late 1929 and lasted for about a decade. Many factors played a role in bringing about the depression. The main cause for the Great Depression was the combination of the greatly unequal distribution of wealth throughout the 1920's, and the extensive stock market speculation that took place during the latter part that same decade. The misdistribution of wealth in the 1920's existed on many levels. Money was distributed disparately between the rich and the middle-class, between industry and agriculture within the United States, and between the U.S. and Europe. This imbalance of wealth created an unstable economy. The excessive speculation in the late 1920's kept the stock market artificially high, but eventually lead to large market crashes. These market crashes, combined with the misdistribution of wealth, caused the American economy to capsize. The "roaring twenties" was an era when our country prospered tremendously. The nation's total income rose from $74.3 billion in 1923 to $89 billion in 1929(end note 1). However, the rewards of the "Coolidge Prosperity" of the 1920's were not shared evenly among all Americans. According to a study done by the Brookings Institute, in 1929 the top 0.1% of Americans had a combined income equal to the bottom 42% (end note 2). That same top 0.1% of Americans in 1929 controlled 34% of all savings, while 80% of Americans had no savings at all (end note 3). Automotive industry mogul Henry Ford provides a striking example of the unequal distribution of wealth between the rich and the middle-class. Henry Ford reported a personal income of $14 million (end note 4) in the same year that the average personal income was $750(end note 5). By present day standards, where the average yearly income in the U.S. is around $18,500(end note 6), Mr. Ford would be earning over $345 million a year! This misdi stribution of income between the rich and the middle class grew throughout the 1920's. While the disposable income per capita rose 9% from 1920 to 1929, those with income within the top 1% enjoyed a stupendous 75% increase in per capita disposable income(end note 7). A major reason for this large and growing gap between the rich and the working-class people was the increased manufacturing output throughout this period.

Market Analysis of L’Oreal and Garnier

Garnier is a brand that epitomizes smart marketing practice. This is a brand that came to India in 1991 and crafted a special place for itself in the Indian market. This is one global brand, which has understood the dynamics of Indian market. Garnier came to India with its Ultra Duox range of shampoos. The brand is amass market brand from Loreal which has a range of global premium personal care brands like Maybelline, Ralph Lauren. , Diesel ,Vichy etc. Loreal started its operations as a joint venture with MJ Group, Later in 1994, the company started its own operations. All through these years, Garnier had a very consistent marketing approach. What I liked about this brand was the kind of investment that it had put in for marketing activities. Of course all these happened because it had the support of its parent company. Garnier can be considered as a masstige brand. Although positioned as a premium offering, the brand was wise enough to price it reasonable. Currently Garnier is target ing the middle and upper socio-economic class. Globally Loreal is a company that is famous for its product innovation.Garnier too has built its brand by launching new products on a regular basis. A strategy based on product innovation works best for a brand like Garnier. When the consumer sees regular new product flow from the brand, it creates a sense of excitement with in the consumer, which will prompt her to stick to this brand. Garnier was the first brand to introduce a cream based hair coloring solution. Garnier is now present in a diverse range of personal care product categories. It is present in the hair-care and skin-care segments. The brand has two sub-brands: Garnier Fructis and Garnier Ultra Doux. Fructis is an interesting sub-brand which has clicked in the Indian market because of its positioning as a fruit based product. Consumers readily embraced this variant because it made sense to depend on a natural shampoo rather than chemical based one. Garnier is positioned as a nature- based (green) innovative personal care brand, which takes care of your skin. The brand has a very catchy tagline † Take Care † Garnier's positioning strategy is more products based in the sense that it as tried to emphasis individual product properties rather than a common brand image. Most of its commercials are emphasizing on product strengths and innovation. The brand is an example of the success of rational product based advertising success. The brand is also sending a message that Indian consumers are also influenced by rational messages. Another interesting marketing strategy adopted by Garnier is its advertising execution. True to its global parentage, Garnier was careful in its advertising theme. It uses a blend of foreign and Indian models and themes for its campaign.Garnier ads can be termed as localized international advertising, which has a global touch but does not appear alien to Indian realities. The brand uses a careful blend of celebrities and models in their campaigns without relying much on their individual persona. Their products are always the stars in their campaigns. Whether these innovations fail or succeed, Garnier gains much equity through this steady stream of product launches. The premium positioning, smart pricing, heavy investment in brand promotion, innovative products and strong distribution reach has enabled this brand to create a special place in the Indian personal care industry.

The History Of Gender Equality Education Essay

Gender is the most basic and outstanding difference that exists among people, whether they are Latino, inkinesss, white, Asiatic, native or European. The heroic poem battle for gender equality in about all states of the universe is good recognized and acknowledged. For centuries, adult females were considered inferior to adult females or as second-class citizens until late. Queerly adequate, really immature misss ne'er attended public simple schools and even when they admitted, they were made to go to a unintegrated school installation. The transition of 19th Amendment to the US Constitution guaranteed voting rights to US adult females. The famed, 1973 instance of Roe v. Wade in the US Supreme Court finally resulted in the granting of right to reproductive freedom.Essential Differences between work forces and adult femalesPhysical differences between work forces and adult females are all good known. However, the most outstanding difference among work forces and adult females relates to the sensitive biological maps that are associated with childbearing, kid nursing, early oncoming of adulthood and the smaller physical size. If there are any other differences, they are due to differences and prejudices caused by the society. Anthropologically, immature male childs were ever considered as warriors, combatants and defenders of the society and household. A typical adult male was supposed to be full of energy and strength. He was besides supposed to be competitory and self-asserting. Work force were besides supposed to be passionless and reject empathy, understanding, fright and cargo. On the other manus, immature misss were supposed to be nurturing and inactive towards everyone in the household. Furthermore, they were expected to demo and exhibit emotions and sentiments. Development ensured that immature work forces and adult females adapted themselves to these typical and stereotyped sentiments and beliefs. They besides considered these beliefs to be the natural order of life. The consequences of these stereotypic beliefs were a deep unease of the society that finally resulted in gender prejudice and bitterness.Educational differencesEarly educational research conducted in the last century proposed that there are indispensable differences between male childs and misss, particularly in the sphere of math, verbal and spacial accomplishments. However, recent research findings suggest us that these perceived differences are false and at best biased. For illustration, there are non adequate differences on category trials between school traveling male childs and misss until the age of 10. Whatever the differences those exist is really infinitesimal. There was a perceptual experience that indicated that work forces do better in math trials in high school. However, those differences are get downing to vanish, as even adult females are making better in Math trials. In kernel, whatever the biological differences that exist between work forces and adult females, they are non wholly due to biological grounds. Methods to dispute female stereotypesStereotypic thought is really common in our society. Gender prejudice, inequality and contempt for adult females ‘s authorization are some of the negative thought that runs even today. A typical illustration of this is the sensed alteration in the attitude about a female jock ‘s power and ability in the field and path events. In the early parts of the last century, females were discouraged from take parting in athletic plans. Athletic plans were non even listed in the athleticss meets, while the supp ort for such plans was really light and rare. In fact, adult females seldom participated in athleticss activities. However, all these changed when the authorities proclaimed that adult females should have equal support under the Title IX of the educational amendment Acts of the Apostless of 1972. Due to the alterations in the jurisprudence, adult females could take part in athleticss and competitory activities conducted nationally and internationally. How should teacher act when there is gender pigeonholing?Struggle for gender equality is ongoing and every instructor is lending to guarantee gender equality. In the yesteryear, there were cases of instructors falling into trap of gender stereotypic believing inclinations that finally led them to believe that male childs were superior to girls in topics like math and scientific discipline. Such instructors used to name male childs to reply their inquiries in the category and they were encouraged to execute good in verbal and non-verbal trials. Similarly, girl pupils were either neglected or even ignored. As a dedicated instructor, you should non fall into the trap of gender stereotype ; instead, you should be a powerful instructor to deter such activities. This may advance and promote a typical schoolroom that provides encouragement for both male childs and misss to execute better in the category.More about Racial Prejudice and DiscriminationGender favoritism in our society ever depends on many factors like differences between work forces and adult females, presumed male high quality myth and the society ‘s general prejudice against weaker groups. Overall, the sensed bias against some groups in the society could be due to the construct of power relationship that arises as an indispensable portion of socialisation procedure. When immature people grow, they ever start seeking for their personal individuality. When you grow through your age, you may inquire these simple yet slippery inquiries: Who am I? Why am I here? However, it is really hard answer these inquiries by anyone. While it is really hard to reply these inquiries, you may be unconsciously larning about other intricate inquiries like ; Who are they? Who they are non To which race does he or she belong to What civilization does he or she belong to These simple inquiries may give rise to sense of ‘otherness † which may finally take to either domination by others or entry by ego. It may even ensue in the creative activity of pride or shame based on the prevailing stereotype and biass as projected by the society. To avoid all these unsavoury occurrences, you may necessitate to inform your kids about the rich cultural heritage of the state, all the piece emphasizing on the importance of different races, ethnicities and cultural groups of the state. The Great â€Å" Cycle of Poverty †Black to white relationship provides a really pertinent context for understanding how power relationships reinforce through legion social and cultural stereotypes and prejudice. Research findings suggest is that African American kids frequently accept the beliefs, patterns and built-in values of the dominant white social groups. This could be unsafe because kids may develop and propagate negative stereotype and sentiment about their a in race, civilization and beliefs. The 1944 authoritative written by Gunnar Myrdal ( An American Dilemma ) has provided us a great start to understand the practical theory of the now celebrated â€Å" The War on Poverty † . Focused specially on the racism in the US, the writer argued that African Americans frequently are trapped in a â€Å" rhythm of poorness † that may finally take to the development of unwanted stereotypes and prejudice. Harmonizing to the writer, a figure of African Americans have small entree to high quality instruction that may ensue in decreased employment options and eventual poorness and life of hopelessness. This general belief may hold led to the stereotypic thought that African Americans are lazy and that they can non work good for any occupations. This prejudice may besides ensue in a barbarous rhythm of poorness. Federal and province governmental plans like Head Start and Affirmative Action were successful in helping those people enrolled in public establishments. How to interrupt the barbarous cycle- Your FunctionWhite persons may reenforce the rhythm of poorness by believing in the usual stereotypic thought of Blacks, Hispanics, Asians and other cultural groups. Queerly, a figure of pupils are blissfully incognizant of their ain individuality as a portion of a racial group and this has led to the theory of â€Å" colour blind † . The consequence is that as they enter school, so get down believing that they are the portion of the â€Å" in group † that are wholly different from other pupils, who appear diverse in footings of their tegument colour, sunglassess, textures, linguistic communication, idiom and cultural upbringing. It could be a unsafe state of affairs for all kids. At this critical occasion, you may wish to work towards making a reciprocally contributing and across-the-board schoolroom. You may besides wish to develop a schoolroom that really believes in the rich civilization of America. It is your responsibility to work hard to make a democratic schoolroom by learning your pupils to esteem the cultural fortes of different groups. Nature helps kids to socialise and streamline their attitude to move in some specific manner towards others. Normally, they may ne'er seek to understand who they are, but they will decidedly get down specifying themselves by who they are non ; this attitude may take to incorrect self-perceptions. In life, all kids would wish to see themselves as either colored or non-colored, male or female, dark or just, immature or old or native English talkers or non. They may besides wish to acknowledge other differences between themselves and other people. These may include such things as caste, faith, civilization, ethnicity, regionalism or even sexual orientation. A multi-cultural schoolroom will assist you avoid developing such a negative inclination among your pupils. Supplying text editions that are positive in nature and that discuss about the benefits of life in a merely society may assist you plan and make a cultureless schoolroom. A good instructor will besides seek to make a schoolroom that exhibits tolerance, forbearance and credence of all cultural groups. It is possible to make a demographic schoolroom that is tolerant and sensitive towards all people.Classism – It is the Stain of Materialistic CultureAs a kid starts turning into an grownup phase, he or she will obser ve the presence of important differences in the social place of their schoolmates. Some kids may be treated as being low in the category ; this may intend that they are really hapless. Traditionally talking, people consider stuffs wealth to be above everything in this universe. It is besides really common to see rich know aparting against working category or even in-between category households. Because of their inability to flash material wealth in forepart of others, they are considered as person who can non hold a position in the society. The media and society play an of import function in propagating this category difference. Media advertizement and selling publicity are the two of the most powerful tools that guide little and immature kids in believing that utilizing branded and dearly-won merchandises will heighten their societal position among their schoolmates. Most of the trade names that are promoted by Television, cyberspace and wireless advertizements are premium and expe nsive.Happening of poorness in the United statesOn paper, the US is one of the wealthiest states in the universe. However, there are broad wrappings of population that are populating under poorness line ; most people populating under poorness line are frequently referred to as working hapless or working category. If you consider the authorities ‘s ain figure, the entire figure of people populating in poorness is a galvanizing 40 million or about 15 % of the full population. Harmonizing to the US Census Bureau ( U.S. Census Bureau, 2000a ) , approximately 30 % of all African Americans, 28 % of Hispanics and 31 % of Native Americans are populating below the poorness line. A state as rich and every bit affluent as the US has many traditional myths under its belly – myths refering the continuity of poorness and misery are common even today. One of the most important myths that exist today is that those people, who are populating below poorness line, do non really work. Most of the people, who are populating in poorness line do work for low paying and humble occupations that do non supply for the minimal amenitiess and populating necessities. Hence, these people are trapped in ageless poorness. Though they are willing to work, their low educational degree every bit good as dearth in accomplishments, impede them from acquiring better paying occupations. Recent research shows that about two million people, who are populating below the poorness line do work full clip. Another 7 million people, who are below the poorness line, really work portion clip. However, the most distressful fact about these set of statistics is the sensed Numberss of kids, who are populating under low poorness. They are the guiltless victims of a state of affairs that is non their mistake. With really few resources in their manus like books, computing machines, survey stuffs, you can non anticipate them to win in their category. Most of the parents, who live under the poorness line, are uneducated themselves and they may non be able to fix their kids for the schoolroom. As a instructor, you may necessitate to assist such parents and instructors to acquire an entree to liberate survey resources like books, computing machines, public libraries, in school plans and any other benevolent plans that can heighten their accomplishments and intelligence.Childs who live under poorness line – Comparison with other statesA old survey by a US magazine called U. S. News and World Report, demonstrated that the entire Numberss of kids populating in our state is far more than those that live in other industrialised states. Even after, you consider all those public assistances and societal security plans, every bit many as one kid in every five live in poorness, which is a really high figure of about 21.5 % ! Just compare this statistics from other states – 6.8 % for Germany and France, 9.9 % for Great Britain and a really low rate of 2.75 for Sverige! This important study besides provides a revealing narrative of why affluent United states kids are wealthier than the richest kids anyplace in the universe – â€Å" Poor kids have less to populate on- than those in all [ industrialised states ] but Ireland and Israel † ( U. S. News and World Report, 1995, p. 24 ) . The available informations on those kids, who are stateless, are even more startling! Estimated figures suggest us that the entire Numberss of stateless kids in the United States range from 65000 to 500,000. When you add the about 14 million kids, who live in some type of Foster attention installations, you can conceive of the humungous nature of the job ( Jencks, 1994 ; Sandham, 2001 ) . Classroom classism could be one of the most barbarous and worst signifiers of favoritism. As a instructor, you may wish to eliminate this perfidy from your schoolroom. What can you make?As a dedicated American instructor, you can make many things to minimise and eliminate classism in your schoolrooms. Two illustrations of actions are as follows: Choosing good course of study stuffs that plan to minimise classism Choosing your ain actions that are good and merely for the full schoolroom Teaching about the achievements of working category and hapless people in the state edifice could assist you in minimising classism. Historical mentions about labour battle and racism could besides be your potent tools in this way. You may besides learn how foolhardy disbursement on stuffs that we do non necessitate, will take to material geting compulsion and uneconomical outgo. You must be a positive function theoretical account, who believes in high value public presentation, cooperation and indifferent and above all with a head to eschew philistinism. Make certain that you send out a positive signal to your kids.Journal ActivityMake you hold with gender inequality? Why female stereotypic thought can harm the larger involvements of a society? Do you experience inordinate gender stereotyping will harm your learning? What is your sentiment on biass and favoritism practiced in a schoolroom?Pause and ReflectInvent a mechanism to contend the Great Cycle of Poverty. Write down notes on why this construct is so critical for guaranting learning success in a traditional schoolroom. If you want to win as a good instructor, how to you face assorted cases of gender race favoritism that are so common in a school.Internet ActivityCollect more information on the Great Cycle of Poverty and happening of poorness among schoolchildren in the US. What is your sentiment on the Great War on Poverty? By utilizing the information, devise you ain function that will help you in interrupting down the barbarous rhythm of poorness.

The “math wars”

Aside from the requisites of drug manufacturing, a drug company must also have the knowledge on the legal aspect of the pharmaceutical business. A company must be able to know what agencies of the government he has to seek advice from before it undergoes the manufacturing process in order to have a good start.Relative to this, the company needs to know which regulates the safety and efficacy of the drugs to be manufactured and which agency protects the rights of the manufacturer and the consumers against illicit drugs. This paper will discuss the basic responsibilities of the Food and Drug Administration and the Drug Enforcement Agency including the approval process of manufacturing a generic drug copy. FOOD AND DRUG ADMINISTRATION AND ITS RESPONSIBILITIES The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) is generally responsible for ensuring the safety and efficacy of all drugs for human and veterinary use.FDA’s 1mission statement specifically states that the administration â€Å"is res ponsible for protecting the public health by assuring the safety, efficacy, and security of human and veterinary drugs, biological products, medical devices, our nation’s food supply, cosmetics, and products that emit radiation. † This will then give us the idea why FDA need to regulate drugs, and that is to ensure that they are safe and effective. The administration is also held responsible for ensuring that the drugs have information that is honest and accurate for the general public to use.The Drug Enforcement Agency (DEA) (Drug Enforcement Administration for the United States) is primarily responsible for the enforcement of the Controlled Substances Laws and Regulations. In the United States, DEA is under the wing of the Department of Justice, where it serves as an arm of the justice against the 2those organizations and principal members of organizations, involved in the growing, manufacture, or distribution of controlled substances appearing in or destined for illi cit traffic in the United States. The DEA’s drugs of concern include: Cocaine, marijuana, heroin, inhalants, LSD, Ecstasy, Steroids, Oxycontin and Methamphetamine. The following list of specific responsibilities is adopted by this writer from the DEA’s official website: >Investigation and preparation for the prosecution of major violators of controlled substance laws operating at interstate and international levels. >Investigation and preparation for prosecution of criminals and drug gangs who perpetrate violence in our communities and terrorize citizens through fear and intimidation. >Management of a national drug intelligence program in cooperation with federal, state, local, and foreign officials to collect, analyze, and disseminate strategic and operational drug intelligence information.>Seizure and forfeiture of assets derived from, traceable to, or intended to be used for illicit drug trafficking. >Enforcement of the provisions of the Controlled Substances Act as they pertain to the manufacture, distribution, and dispensing of legally produced controlled substances. >Coordination and cooperation with federal, state and local law enforcement officials on mutual drug enforcement efforts and enhancement of such efforts through exploitation of potential interstate and international investigations beyond local or limited federal jurisdictions and resources.>Coordination and cooperation with federal, state, and local agencies, and with foreign governments, in programs designed to reduce the availability of illicit abuse-type drugs on the United States market through nonenforcement methods such as crop eradication, crop substitution, and training of foreign officials. >Responsibility, under the policy guidance of the Secretary of State and U. S. Ambassadors, for all programs associated with drug law enforcement counterparts in foreign countries.>Liaison with the United Nations, Interpol, and other organizations on matters relating to international drug control programs. DEA’S PROGRAMS AND OPERATIONS Drug Enforcement Agency also updates its programs and operations according to the demand of technology and the development of new methods of illicit drug operations. Recent report published in the KT4 Online alerted the public on the emergence of illegal websites that are bringing prescription drugs out into the market (KT4 Online, August 24, 2007).The DEA reported that such websites are able to market their products using just credit cards as payment modes. The agency now referred the so-called â€Å"rogue pharmacies† to the congress for the legislation of a more formidable law for such illegal and dangerous activities, which are regulated because such companies do not meet the standards set by the United States. Even medicinal or herbal plants that are not yet studied or regulated under the law is also under the responsibility of the DEA to study and made research relative to its danger in the human health. In Utah, a native plant called salvia divinorium, has been put into attention by the Hill Air Force Base which according to initial findings can cause hallucinations. In the report published in the Salt Lake Tribune, â€Å"magic mint† as its street name, is ingested or inhaled usually by the members of the military and the people inside the base (Salt Lake Tribune, August 20, 2007). The herbal plant is still legal as it is still under research by the DEA. Experts also say that the plant that grows in the wilds of Utah can cause lung irritation when its dried leaves are inhaled.LAWS AND POLICIES GOVERNING GENERIC DRUGS The regulations pertaining to generics drugs are under the responsibility of the Food and Drug Administration. Under the law, pharmaceutical companies or drug manufacturers have all the right to apply for a generic copy of their branded drugs. It can also be that a manufacturer seeks for a license from the brand name company to make a generic copy of the branded product . A generic copy of the drug is called â€Å"authorized generics† because the branded product manufacturer had given the authority to the manufacturer of the generic drug copy. However, these generic copied have to undergo the legal process that is regulated by the FDA. It is the Drug Price Competition and Patent Term Restoration Act of 1984, commonly referred to as the Waxman-Hatch Act, which is being used as a legal basis for FDA for regulating generic drug copies. â€Å"Since the law was enacted over 23 years ago, the number of generic manufacturers and number of generic drug products on the market have expanded exponentially† (Coster, John M. 2007). The law allows a generic drug that is a generic copy of the pioneer drug to be approved by FDA to be marketed by the same company. This is even without the submission of the usual New Drug Application (NDA) that is submitted in full when a branded product is being applied for marketing. The NDA is usually a time-consuming and expensive clinical trials required to be done by the drug manufacturer in order to comply with the safety and efficacy standards required of them. With the Waxman-Hatch Act, NDA is being replaced with the submission of Abbreviated New Drug Application (ANDA) provided that the generic copy has demonstrated the fact that it is bioequivalent to the pioneer drug (J.Coster, The Pharmacist, Vol. 32, No. 6, 2007). This process allows the generic copy to be approved for marketing the easier and faster way because it does not to prove its safety and effectiveness through trials since the pioneer drug had already proven such. For the ANDA of the generic drug to be approved, its pioneer drug must have the four required certifications: (1) that no patent is listed for the pioneer drug; (2) that the patent has expired; (3) the date on which the patent will expire; or (4) that the patent is invalid or not infringed.Such information is listed in the FDA’s Orange Book, a reference for t he pharmacists in determining the interchangeability of the drugs. Just recently, the Waxman-Hatch Act has been replaced with 3McCain-Schumer Act, after its authors Senators John McCain and Charles E. Schumer. The main feature of the new act is the changing of the 180-day exclusivity term of the first generic drug copy to only the 30-day term. Exclusivity, in the old law is granted for the manufacturer of the generic drug to market the product exclusively within 180 days that is for the manufacturer who first secured the FDA’s approval of the generic copy. With the new law, exclusivity term is shortened for the purpose of further price reduction of the generic drugs as competition is encouraged after the 30-day term. It is estimated, according to Schumer’s study that the new law will enable consumers to save 60% of their usual expense when buying branded drugs and that will give consumers a total of $71 billion savings in 10 years (Bash, Dana, CNN Online, May 01, 2001). Schumer cited Claritin, a prescription allergy drug as example which costs an average of $63. 65 while its generic equivalent will only cost $25. 46.Generally, the new law is of great help for the Americans in terms of their medical expenditures. CONCLUSION By looking into the basic responsibilities and functions of the FDA and DEA, we were able to have an idea of the basic legal aspect of drug manufacturing and marketing. Also by having an overview of the laws governing generic copy manufacturing, we were able to have the basic knowledge of how the approval process rolls. In general we can conclude that the legal process of drug manufacturing and marketing is really a long and expensive process for the companies especially for the branded or patented drugs. However with the Schumer-McCain Act, the process is shortened and had benefited especially the consumers for enabling the cheaper version of their branded medicine to be marketed. Retrieved on August 26, 2007 from http://www. fda. gov/comments/regs. html There has always been a debate on whether the mathematics be taught should be the old basics or the standards reformed mathematics. Basic mathematics primarily comprises arithmetic and computation. This is just simple mathematics which involves solving simple equation and memorizing formulas.Basic mathematic also comprises the following list t o f items. There is the accurate counting to 100 or more, mastery of basic facts for all four operations, pencil and paper computation skills with hole numbers, decimals and fractions and solving percent problems. Other aspect includes the knowing and using formulas for area and perimeter of basic shapes. Though the above list is a bit simplified its basic position i s that kids only get to know some basic stuff. Basic mathematics can also be referred to as trivial pursuit mathematics meaning that children are to know the content not the practicability (John, 1999).On the other hand reform mathematics has higher level of difficulty and has set five goals. These are that students should value mathematics, be confident in the ability to do mathematics and become mathematics problem solvers. They should as well be able to communicate well mathematically and learn to reason mathematically. It involves the four basic process standards which are problem solving, communication, reasoning, and connections. It entails gearing the children to develop the ability to think than just memorizing the mathematics concepts. Those who believe in the reform mathematics talk about mathematical power, the ability to reason and solve unique problems (John, 1999). It is important to note that even if the two approaches appear to differ there are some things they share in. Benefits and demerits of basics Basic mathematics requires teacher centered approach which involves teaching the mathematics through drill and practice. However in this way the children can end up not being intrinsically motivated. This prevents them from learning mathematics facts and how to connect to the real world.Furthermore the approach is essentially teacher directed, and structured only for basic skills instructions. This approach comes with advantages and disadvantages as far as basic mathematics teaching is concerned. One of the advantages is that, it is clear that for learning to be effective there must be a knowledge source and this is what the teacher act as. The teachers have attained their unifications and expertise from colleges and universities to become experts in their fields. In this reasoning it’s convenient to involve to someone who is already an expertise in the field to impart that knowledge in the students. For example according to Kelly, if the st udents have a question on atopic raised by the text book, the teacher is present ton as the expert to answer the question (Kelly, 2004). Other benefits include good planning and execution of knowledge passing process and good discipline. The disadvantage of this style is that no one can predict which parts of the information the student has learned will eventually become obsolete or incorrect, what the student will forget, or what new information he will need to know in the future (Howard, 1980).Furthermore according to Howard in some cases the students can obtain a false security if they believe that, once information ins dispensed and a cognitive framework provide the student will incorporate the information, recognize where and when it could and should be applied when time comes. One great disadvantages of this method is that a strong investment in the style can lead to rigid, standardized, and less flexible ways of managing students and their concerns (Howard, 1908). This acts a s huge impediment to development and self discovery within the student. This huge impediment has been seen as the greatest drawback for this style of administering knowledge. The benefits and demerits of reform mathematics style According the student center online answers, the best approach of teaching mathematics should stress active, student centered learning in real life context (student center). This may help in making the concepts more understandable and interesting. This therefore calls for the student knowing the crafts before they can apply them and that is where the basic mathematics comes handy. The reform mathematics takes the student centered approach of learning. This involves instructions where by the students actively create knowledge for themselves. It consists of group learning, inquiry, and humanistic learning activities (student center). This method has additional advantages both to the student and the teacher some which are enlisted below. To begin with the student would develop learning and knowledge that will help them throughout their life. In this method students always discover that learning is fun and interesting. Furthermore, through this method teachers always have less traditional work. This is more prominent in the upper class levels where the students are mature enough. The student gets to be more attentive and willing to participate in the class activities. In this way there is a reduction in the number of complaints about fairness and unequal treatment. When student carry out research and group works they generate a lot of information that the teacher may add to his collection of information. However this method also comes with some disadvantages. It poses a problem when it comes to evaluation in that this has to be individualized. Providing one test for the whole class has to be abandoned. Every student has to be evaluated based on his or her goals. One other big disadvantage of this method is that there some student who do not re late well with it in spite the teachers best efforts. Such scenario is always more prevalent in the lower classes levels even though it can also be found in the upper classes. The other demerit is that the students’ always have to work in groups. There occur complaints about being put in teams. However the complaints get to seize as the student get to understand that it is what the real world is like. Under some circumstances student may find it hard to work in teams since most of them have never had the experience of team work. ConclusionIt is important to note for the reformed mathematics, the fact that it takes the student centered learning method gives it an upper hand as method of teaching mathematics. In fact students do appreciate the real world experience eve when they do not like them that much (daymalyn, 2009). This is therefore more appropriate and practical than the basics math which would d lead to rigidity and less development of the kids as well as new advancem ent in the mathematics fields.
